Knaresborough, and the River Wharfe that flows through it, are a must for any visitor to the towns of Yorkshire. Home to Mother Shipton (her cave lies just across the water from this scene), the old mill houses and cottages and rowing boats on the River are illuminated by an Autumnal sun below the hillside behind on which the ruins of the ancient Castle sit. Painted on site looking directly towards the sun (contre joure) for maximum impact.
