The picturesque fishing village of Staithes lies on the East Yorkshire coast and has been a haven for artists for many years, including the Staithes Group, of whom the most famous member was Dame Laura Knight. The village was also home to the young Captain James Cook before he joined the Navy. The scene attracted me from a location high above the village and focusses on a group of cottages caught in the strong afternoon sunlight, with a path leading to the cliffs above and surrounded by a host of differing greens.
