Niest Point lies at the westernmost tip of the Isle of Skye and the lighthouse has been there since 1909. It is a beautiful viewpoint but it also tends to bear the full force of the wind blowing from Ireland and the Hebrides.
Painted on site, I battled with the elements to create a mixed media painting, starting with an underpainting using acrylic inks on watercolour paper, before driving rain and wind took over!
I was so delighted to have the opportunity to complete the pastel stage of the painting in the HQ of Unison Colour at Thorneyburn, in Hexham, Northumberland. This provided a wonderful chance both to complete the painting using expressive pastel marks but also to see the home of Unison Colour and meet some of the people who make and deliver worldwide our favourite pastels!
